Roger Hall Comes To HLT

Posted 28 October 2017

On Sunday, November 12, at HLT's 2pm matinee performance of Book Ends, the playwright Roger Hall and the cast of his hit comedy will be facing some of the real people upon whom their characters are based. This is probably a unique occasion in theatre. Roger’s play is based on his Devonport coffee group, The Cabin Fever Club, which meets every Tuesday morning and has done for about 12 years. The group are mostly writers and publishers, and all share a passion for books. “They all knew I was writing it, and some came to a public reading of it.” It covers four meetings, spread over four years. The first is set in 2010, when one of them brings back a Kindle from overseas. They all scoff at it, little realising the impact it will have on their lives. At the end of the performance, Hall will be invited to receive comments from the audience, including several Cabin Fever members who are also coming along. So far, no lawyers have been asked to accompany them.....
