Brodie, a gifted linguist, learns unsettling news about the baby she carries. Unable to get comfort from her girlfriend, she finds it in the two least likely sources imaginable: the elderly speaker of a vanishing language … and a gorilla at the zoo. A crisp, fast-moving, tough-minded story about love, language, memory, and impossible decisions. Madeleine George’s insightfully humane story shines a light on the way we connect with others, and the vulnerability we all face when there are no easy answers left. Adult content.
